Sporty watches can be said to be one of the most popular watches nowadays, especially those like Patek Philippe Nautilus and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, which are hard to find. But what is interesting is that these two watches have some "kinship", because they are from the same designer, that is Gérald Genta.
Master Genta not only designed two popular steel watches, but he also original or redesigned many classics, such as engineers from IWC, Cartier's Pasha, and Bulgari's BVLGARI-BVLGARI.
Genta's watch design can be called a vast sea of smoke. According to his own estimation, in 60 years of working life, there are about 100,000 watches designed, and the most famous one is undoubtedly the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak that has been in flames for more than a decade. And Patek Philippe Nautilus.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak look alike watches was designed in the 1970s. At that time, the Swiss watch industry was facing a "quartz crisis". Many brands were seeking innovation and change, and so was Audemars Piguet.
Genta recalled the process of creating the Royal Oak in an interview. On the eve of the Basel International Fair in 1971, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, Audemars Piguet General Manager Georges Golay called Zunda and said, "I need an unprecedented piece of steel. Sports watches, I want to see the design before tomorrow morning."
